A transcript issued by Indiana University is official when it displays the Registrar’s signature and the University seal and is printed on Indiana University paper. This official university transcript is printed on SCRIP-SAFE® paper and does not require a raised seal.

Transcripts are only official if sent directly from Indiana University to the recipient (where you want the transcript sent directly to) on the request.

If the transcript is opened, or accessed, and then shared again, it is then considered unofficial.

What coursework and degree information appears on the transcript?

An official transcript issued by Indiana University reflects all course work, and degree(s), completed at any IU campus: Bloomington, Columbus (formerly IUPUC), Fort Wayne (formerly IPFW), Gary (Northwest), Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI), Kokomo, New Albany (Southeast), Richmond (East), South Bend.

For shared campuses with Purdue University, such as Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI), Columbus (formerly IUPUC), and IU Fort Wayne (formerly IPFW), the records may be held at one institution or divided between both institutions. While the campuses are shared, records are maintained separately by the institution at which the program was taken. If you are unsure, please contact our office, or Purdue University, directly to see which institution holds your transcript.

Is an electronic PDF transcript considered official?

Certified electronic PDF transcripts have been digitally signed. When opened, they display a digital signature along with a blue ribbon that verifies that the document is authentic.

Our certified electronic PDF transcripts are delivered electronically over a secure network, using our vendor Parchment, to the email address(es) of the recipient(s) you specify on your request. In the email message sent to your recipient(s), Parchment (noreply@parchment.com) will include a link to download the transcript, as well as instructions on how to access the transcript. The recipient(s) should check their junk mail folder if the recipient email does not arrive.

Indiana University will not certify the authenticity of any electronic PDF transcript that has been replicated or forwarded to anyone other than the original recipient. If you need to send official transcripts to more than one person, please add an additional recipient for each individual email address you want sent a transcript.

Troubleshooting Electronic PDF Transcripts

Find solutions to some of the most common issues recipients have with certified electronic PDF transcripts.

Where is my PDF Transcript?

Once you request your Indiana University electronic PDF transcript, your recipient should receive an email from noreply@parchment.com within 24 hours after the request was processed. The recipient email contains a link to access and download the transcript.

You should receive a confirmation from Parchment when the recipient email is sent and again when the transcript is accessed.

Please download the electronic PDF transcript before the 30 day window of availability expires. Once downloaded, the transcript file does not expire.

Occasionally, due to an email application's network security, the recipient email may appear in the recipient's spam or junk folder.

If the recipient is using a secure, shared network (such as a government, military, or even school district network), delivery may either be delayed or unsuccessful. The recipient may need to reach out to their network's technical support to ensure the recipient email is allowed to be delivered or use a different email address outside of the protected network.

How long can I access my PDF transcript?

You’ll be notified via email by Parchment (noreply@parchment.com) when the recipient email has been sent and again when the recipient has downloaded the electronic PDF transcript. Transcripts are accessible to download for 30 days after receiving.

Once downloaded, the transcript file does not expire and can be shared with whomever you deem appropriate.

Indiana University will not certify the authenticity of any electronic PDF transcript that has been replicated or forwarded to anyone other than the original recipient. If you need to send your official transcript to more than one person, please request multiple transcripts for any additional recipients.

Why is the email blank?

A blank email is caused by a security setting in your mail application. The application displays a large, blank box instead of the image. Scroll down to the email text or download the pictures.

Why is the link in the email not working?

Recipient email addresses on a protected or secure, shared network may encounter errors trying to access and download the electronic PDF transcript. Typically, issues occur with military or government email addresses that are not set up to receive these recipient email messages.

The intended recipient may need to reach out to their network's technical support to ensure the recipient email is allowed to be delivered.

To avoid delays, you may ask your recipient for an alternate email address (not accessed through the protected network) or request a paper transcript to be sent to a physical address instead.

Why does the PDF have blank pages?

You must use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to view the secure document.

Why am I getting an error message when I open the PDF?

Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat needs to connect to a rights management server. You should be prompted to allow access.

If your computer is behind a firewall to protect you from potentially unsafe content, your computer may not be able to connect to the server. Try opening the PDF from a different network, such as your home network.

Why is the quality of the PDF so bad when I print it?

For best results, print the document to a color printer. The electronic PDF transcript is the same as an official paper transcript and should not be altered in any way, including the color(s).

If you do not have a color printer and the graphics are not printing, make sure you print using the grayscale option rather than black and white.

Why is it password protected?

Indiana University electronic PDF transcripts are official to the first person that accesses the transcript.

Transcripts can be shared again and do not require a password to open the file.

For applications, some institutions may ask you to upload the official electronic PDF transcript through their application portal.

Students typically request the official transcript sent to themselves as an electronic PDF transcript to download. Then, they upload the electronic PDF transcript to the application portal.

Occasionally, application portal systems encounter an error and see the file as "password protected" when misreading the security information embedded within the file. The embedded security information is the digital signature and blue ribbon that verifies that the document is authentic.

If you encounter this issue, please contact the institution you are applying to and ask for a different method in sharing your IU electronic PDF transcript. Students in the past have done this with success.

Indiana University does not change the format, file type, nor delivery method for official electronic PDF transcripts.

Transcript Questions Before Requesting a Transcript

Can I get an official transcript immediately?

Make sure to request your transcript with plenty of time ahead of any deadlines.

Please allow 1-3 business days for requests to be processed. After processing, transcripts are sent out according to the delivery option you selected on your request. Note: adverse weather or sudden health safety constraints may unexpectedly delay processing paper transcripts.

To request a transcript to be sent as quickly as possible, please request an electronic PDF transcript using the fully automated system under the Current Students or Former Students option on our Request A Transcript page.

Electronic PDF transcripts are sent out within 24 hours after a request is processed.

We may be able to process a request within one business day for an electronic PDF transcript placed through the manually processed, Signature Request, system. However, we cannot guarantee immediate processing.

Why can't I request a transcript through Parchment?

While Indiana University uses Parchment as a secure, email-delivery vendor for electronic PDF transcripts, all requests must be made using an IU system.

I have a form to send attached to my transcript. What should I do?

Indiana University cannot send attachments with electronic PDF transcripts. You must request a paper transcript.

While IU uses Parchment as a secure, email-delivery vendor, many Centralized Application Services (CAS) such as AMCAS, LSAC, AACOMAS, CASPA, PTCAS, NursingCAS, OptomCAS, ADEA, etc. do not accept the IU electronic PDF transcript file type.

The CAS may provide you with a form they need to be sent attached to your IU transcript. These forms may be called a transcript matching form, transcript request form, or transcript ID form. If you have questions on where to locate the CAS provided form, please contact the CAS directly. Once you have the form, please follow the steps below.

Note: you may not need to mail in the form with your request. Most people submit forms via email.

If you attended multiple IU campuses and have multiple forms to attach for the same CAS, feel free to request one paper transcript. We can attach the multiple CAS forms for all IU campuses you've attended to the one paper transcript.

If you are a current IU student, your program may provide you with different steps on how to place an order to your CAS. Your program should communicate that information to you, if provided.

Regardless of where you need to send the transcript, if you have a form to be attached to the transcript, please follow the steps below.

Request Transcript Sent with Form Online:

Fully Automated System

The fully automated system is the fastest way to request your paper transcript. Please note that you will be asked to answer a series of questions to verify your identity. After two unsuccessful attempts, you will not be able to place a request through the fully automated system for 30 days. If you are unable to use the fully automated system, please instead use the Signature Request system to request electronic and paper transcripts.

If you have forms to send attached to your official transcript, please request a paper transcript using the link above. Remember to email the forms to tform@iu.edu AFTER placing your request.

Signature Request (manually processed)

If you cannot use the fully automated system, please use the Signature Request system. This system is placed online and manually processed. Please allow 1-3 business days for processing. Your request cannot be processed until your handwritten signature has been received and any express delivery fees are paid.

Note: Express delivery cannot go to a Post Office Box (PO Box). Select Regular Mail to go to a PO Box or provide a shipping address for express delivery.

Step 1: Please put where you want the transcript to go directly to into the Recipient Fields. Select "Review Request" to go over the details and pay for any express delivery charges.

Step 2: Sign the Step 2 authorization page and return it to our office with any forms to send attached to transcript. Most people email the completed authorization page and forms.

VERY IMPORTANT: You do not upload your attachments while placing your request. Please submit all forms to be attached to the paper transcript with the signed Step 2 Authorization page. The Step 2 Authorization page is the final step. We use the signed Step 2 page to process the request and print the forms to attach to the paper transcript.

How do I send my transcript to World Education Services (WES)?

World Education Services (WES) no longer accepts Indiana University paper transcripts. WES has provided the information below to best assist IU students.

Please request an electronic PDF transcript to be sent to WES using the Recipient Email Address: submit@wes.org

In the Recipient Name field on your request, put "WES" with your reference number.

That will ensure your WES reference number is listed directly on the transcript.

What if I have a hold on my account?

Your request will not be able to be processed, or possibly placed, if there’s a hold on your account restricting the release of your transcript.

This includes holds placed by University Collections & Loan Services, Greek Housing, the Office of Student Conduct, or the Dean of Students. If we encounter any transcript holds, your request will be cancelled.

If you no longer have access to view your records in One.iu.edu and are unsure if you have a hold, you may contact the Transcripts office at 812-855-4500 or email transcripts@iu.edu with your name, including all former names, and date of birth.

I have coursework through multiple IU campuses. Do I only request one transcript?

Yes. Please place a request for one transcript and leave the Transcript Type as the default, either "Official Transcript" or "Official Transcript - All Completed Coursework".

Feel free to select the most recent campus you attended. Although you select only one campus, all completed coursework and degrees from all IU campuses will appear on the official transcript.

Additionally, if you would like a transcript to show only one program's information sent out, you can select that specific program's transcript type.

For example, you completed some undergraduate coursework at IU Southeast and then completed a graduate level Masters program at IU Bloomington. However, you only want the Masters information on the transcript. You can select "Official Graduate Transcript" to show only the graduate coursework and degree information from IU Bloomington.

If you leave the default "Official Transcript", the transcript will show all of the IU Southeast undergraduate coursework, as well as the IU Bloomington graduate coursework and degree information.

Sending transcripts to the military or government email?

I was a high school student (Dual Credit/Advanced College Prep) when I took IU credit. How will I request my transcript?

Current, or former, students who only completed High School Advanced College Prep (ACP) and Dual Credit coursework may request electronic and paper transcripts using any method below. If you created a One.IU account, completed your IU coursework recently, and remember your login credentials, you may request your transcript here .

If you did not create a One.IU account, or are not able to login, please request electronic PDF and paper transcripts using a method below.

Courses taken for Indiana University credit while in high school (Dual Credit or Advanced College Prep) will appear on your IU transcript.

Be sure to list where you want the transcript to go directly to in the Recipient Fields. Transcripts are only official to the first person that opens or accesses the transcript. If opened or accessed, and then shared again, the transcript is considered unofficial.

If you are sending the transcript to another university, make sure you know the email or physical address where they want the transcript sent directly to BEFORE placing your order. Feel free to reach out to them for that information.

Note: If you need your transcript mailed to your recipient, you can place your request online. Please only mail in a request if you cannot use the online systems.

We must have a signed authorization from the student to release their transcript. We are unable to accept typed, electronic signatures (ex. Docu-Sign) at this time. A handwritten signature is required.

I have to upload an official transcript to an application portal. What should I do?

If you are asked to upload an official transcript through an institutions's application portal, please request an electronic PDF transcript to be sent to yourself. Put your information and email address in the Recipient fields of your request.

After you receive the email from Parchment (noreply@parchment.com) with the transcript link, download the electronic PDF transcript to your device. Then, you may upload the transcript file to the institution's application portal.

Technically, the transcript will be considered unofficial since it has been accessed and shared again. However, it appears exactly like the official transcript.

Once you are accepted, or chosen for the position, your institution may then ask you to have the official transcript sent directly from Indiana University. You, or your institution on your behalf, may place a new request at that time and list the institution as the recipient.

Indiana University does not upload electronic PDF transcripts on a student's behalf.

Does IU use National Student Clearinghouse, SPEEDE, FASTER, or other electronic transcript systems besides Parchment?

Indiana University uses Parchment as the only vendor to send electronic PDF transcripts. Transcripts are sent securely through email delivery.

Indiana University transcripts must be requested using an IU system and not through the Parchment storefront.

If your recipient does not accept electronic PDF transcripts or does not provide an email address for secure, email-delivery, then you may request a paper transcript to their physical mailing or shipping address.

I attended IPFW. How do I request my transcript?

If you completed coursework at IPFW, please double check which institution holds your records. Typically, the institution information was provided by your department or may be listed on your diploma and any previous transcripts you have received.

If you completed coursework through an Indiana University program, you have an Indiana University transcript. Please use the button below to request electronic and paper transcripts through the manually processed, online Signature Request ordering system.

If the coursework was through a Purdue University program, please request your transcript from Purdue directly.

Does IU fax transcripts?

Indiana University does not fax official or unofficial transcripts.

The IU Fax Service currently does not satisfy requirements that enable its use for sending or receiving data that is regulated by PCI DSS, HIPAA, or FERPA. For more information, see the IU Knowledge Base.

It's my first term at IU, how do I request a transcript to be sent out as soon as possible?

If you are an IU student in your first term at Indiana University, please select the best option below to request electronic PDF or paper official transcripts.

Technically, you do not have an official IU transcript until after you have completed your first term and final grades are posted. However, IU may send a transcript with your current enrollment exactly as it appears on your unofficial transcript in One.IU.

You may request your transcript using your One.IU account through the fully automated system here. However, the transcript will be held until your final grades are official after the end of the term. At that time, the request will be processed and the transcript, with final grades, sent out.

If you need to send your transcript out before the end of the term, without any grades listed, you may place a request online using our manually processed, Signature Request system below.

Midterm grades are not considered official and will not appear on an IU transcript.

Transcript Questions While Placing a Request

I can't use the fully automated system because it's not able to authenticate me. Now what should I do?

After two failed attempts, the fully automated system is unavailable to you for 30 days. Some people are able to make another attempt by using a different device on a different network.

However, you will be able to place your request at any time using our manually processed, online Signature Request system. This system does not require log-in and you will still be able to request electronic PDF and paper transcripts.

Can I pay for my express delivery fees online?

Official Indiana University transcripts are free. However, a fee is required for paper transcripts to be sent via express delivery.

Payment can be made online using a credit or debit card.

If you place a request through the fully automated system, simply select the icon "Pay by Credit Card" when prompted.

If you place a request using the manually processed Signature Request system, please select the PayPal icon when prompted. You do not need to have, or set up, a PayPal account, so feel free to check out as a Guest and uncheck the option to create an account.

Note: Please do not use pre-paid or gift cards. If you are using a card or email address associated with a PayPal account, you will be asked to sign in to that account.

Depending the online request system you use, you may be able to mail in payment instead.

I ordered through Signature Request, but PayPal isn't working. What should I do?

If you encounter issues while trying to pay for express delivery using your card through PayPal, our online payment vendor, here are some possible solutions:

What is Transcript Type?

Indiana University transcripts show coursework and any degree information separated by each program level: Undergraduate (Bachelor's), Graduate (Master's, PhD), and Professional (Law, Medicine, Optometry, Dentistry)

The transcript type you select on your request indicates what program(s) information will appear on your transcript.

To show all program information, leave the default option listed as "Official Transcript" or "Official Transcript - All Completed Coursework", depending on the ordering system.

To show only one program's information, select the specific program you would like.

For example, you completed undergraduate coursework at IU Southeast and then returned later to complete a graduate level Master's program at IU Bloomington. However, you want the official transcript you request to show the graduate Master's information. You can select "Official Graduate Transcript" to show only the graduate coursework and Master's degree information from IU Bloomington.

If you left the default option "Official Transcript" or "Official Transcript - All Completed Coursework", the transcript would show all of the IU Southeast undergraduate coursework, as well as the IU Bloomington graduate coursework and Master's degree information.

Why won’t the correct campus appear on my request?

If you are using the fully automated system, the system defaults to providing the most recent IU campus you attended.

If you are using the manually processed, online Signature Request system, you may select the campus manually.

The campus indicated on your request determines which Registrar's signature will appear on the transcript and will not affect what coursework is shown on your transcript.

Leaving the transcript type as "Official Transcript" or "Official Transcript - All Completed Coursework" will ensure all completed coursework and any degrees, from all IU campuses, will appear on the one transcript.

What if I have a hold on my account?

How do I send a handwritten signature for the Step 2 Authorization Page?

Handwritten signatures are only required as the second step for the manually processed, online Signature Request transcript request system.

After submitting your request, you should be directed to the Step 2 Authorization page.

Note: if you have requested express delivery for a paper transcript, you will need to pay online or indicate you will mail in payment before you are directed to the Step 2 Authorization page.

Please sign the Step 2 Authorization page before returning it to our office.

Most people print, sign, and then scan, or take a photo of, the Step 2 Authorization page to then email back to our office.

We are unable to accept typed, electronic signatures (ex. DocuSign) at this time.

Is there a limit to how many paper transcripts I can request?

Indiana University does not charge a fee for official transcripts. If you are attempting to order more than 3 copies, or have multiple requests for the same recipient address, we reserve the right to ask for justification before processing the request.

Transcript Questions After Placing a Request

What is IU's refund policy?

Refunds will only be issued if we are unable to produce a transcript for which we have already received payment. Express delivery fees are not refunded for incomplete requests or after the transcript has been sent out.

If you submitted an incorrect recipient address, please contact our office as quickly as possible via transcripts@iu.edu or call (812) 855-4500. We will do our best to adjust the recipient address before the transcript leaves our office.

How long will delivery take?

Official Indiana University transcripts are free. A fee is required on requests to send paper transcripts via express delivery.

Transcript requests are typically processed within 1-3 business days.

Electronic PDF transcripts are accessed via links sent in secure email messages by our vendor, Parchment.

Can the transcript be resent?

The warning message at the top of the electronic PDF transcript is provided so third-parties do not share your sensitive information without your consent.

If you have accessed your official transcript and would like to share it again, you may share the transcript with whomever you deem appropriate. The transcript will be considered unofficial coming from you and not from IU directly.

If the official electronic PDF transcript has been accessed and you need another official transcript sent to a different email address, please place a new request.

If an electronic PDF transcript has not been accessed, and is within the 30 day window of availability, we may be able to adjust your request to send the transcript to a different recipient email address. Please email our office at transcripts@iu.edu with your order information for assistance.

If the paper transcript has not been opened, it is still considered official and you may deliver it to a new recipient. For example, some people follow specific guidelines from their recipient to submit the unopened transcript with other necessary materials.

However, most institutions will not accept a transcript addressed to a student or one marked as a student copy. Please check with your recipient before requesting your transcript.

How can I verify a student's enrollment?

Why can't I get my Enrollment Verification Certificate in One.IU?

Enrollment is not finalized until the second week of each term. Enrollment information is then transmitted to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). You will be able to receive current term information once enrollment information is processed by the NSC.

When ready, follow the steps below:

If you are a current student at an IU campus, log into One.IU and search for ' Enrollment Verification Certificate'. Then, select the tile with your campus to print an Enrollment Verification Certificate from the NSC.

You can get an enrollment verification to send to health insurers, housing providers, or other organizations requiring proof of your enrollment. This certification doesn’t include course information, grade information, or your GPA.

If you need to prove that you qualify for a good student discount on your auto insurance, you can request a good student discount document instead.

What qualifies as Good Academic Standing?

An undergraduate student with a program G.P.A. of 2.0 or above or a graduate student with a program G.P.A. of 3.0 or above is considered to be in good academic standing for University certification purposes.

Historically, for purposes of reports and communications to other institutions, and in the absence of any further qualifications of the term, Indiana University Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW) students were considered in good standing unless dismissed, suspended or dropped from IPFW and not readmitted.

What's different between an Enrollment Verification and official transcript?

The enrollment verification shows student name and University ID number, as well as:

The transcript shows coursework, GPA, and grades, but does not include Enrollment Status, exact dates of enrollment, nor a statement of Academic Standing.
